Annual General Meeting Report

Snow Falls – Season Ends

Club members have been able to enjoy about three extra weeks of tennis after the official Thanksgiving Day closing date. Three old nets will remain on the courts until the official reopening of the club at the end of April.

New Executive

The Tuxedo Tennis Club’s Annual General Meeting was very well attended and we succeeded in filling every position on the executive. Your new executive consists of Brian Wilding (President), Tom Neufeld (Vice-President), Lana Abbott (Secretary), John Yarema (Treasurer), Brian Saiko (Membership/Marketing), Hugh Malcolmson (House & Grounds), Dan Rutherford, Selvi Varathappan and Melissa Steele (Members-at-Large), as well as Elaine Thompson (Past-President).

Many thanks to the outgoing executive members, who, with varying numbers of years of service to Tuxedo Tennis Club, include Phil Spevack, Jane Leschasin, Arun Ogale, John & Margaret Childs, Anne and Ash Ashraff, and Bruce Waschuk.

Some of the new club executive members include: Brian Saiko (L to R), Tom Neufeld (back), Selvi Varathappan, Brian Wilding, Lana Abbott, John Yarema, and Hugh Malcolmson.

Club Priorities

A straw vote on the Club’s priorities for 2006 came up with the need for a new clubhouse. However, before the funding can be acquired, an agreement with the city must be worked out. Significant negotiations will need to take place very soon on the draft agreement received from the City on October 28th. According to Jan Taylor, the new clubhouse may be financed in part by a sizeable grant from the Sport Legacy Trust Fund, whose application deadline is January 15th. An Ad Hoc committee is working towards meeting that deadline. The next year should bring some interesting new developments to the club.

Reported by Elaine Thompson, Past President
