May 2006

Hello Tuxedo Tennis Club Members!

Brenna Crook, TTC ManagerMy name is Brenna Crook and I am thrilled to announce that I will be the Manager of the Tuxedo Tennis Club for 2006! We have begun preparations here at the club for another fabulous season of tennis. We will begin our kick-off to the season with an Open House Saturday, May 13th from 9am – 3pm. There will be a fun round robin as well as a BBQ and refreshments. Feel free to bring along a friend who isn’t a member to show them what a wonderful and friendly atmosphere we have here at the club. I hope to see everyone out next weekend!

We have planned a number of exciting events for the season, including our Spring Doubles Tournament May 26th - 28th, the Tuxedo Junior Open from May 30th – June 4th, Spring Singles / Parent & Child Doubles Tournament June 9th – 11th and the Tuxedo Open July 23 – 30th.

I will be joined at the club by Susan Beckwith, our returning staff member. Please feel free to come up and introduce yourself or just stop by and say hello. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at the club. I look forward to a fun-filled summer of tennis. See you at the club!

2006 Calendar of Events

This year's calendar of club events has now been posted to the Tuxedo Tennis Club website. Some changes to the calendar include pushing back the Tuxedo Junior Open to the end of May from its regularly scheduled time to avoid cooler spring time weather. The Tuxedo Open has been moved ahead to July 23rd to avoid the August long weekend. There is still a couple more days to sign up for the first session of Team Tennis with a new option for those that wish to play in a more competitive environment. Please take a moment to review the weekly scheduled activities, as there are a few changes from 2005.

Save Money, be an Early Bird

Membership applications were mailed out later this year which didn't allow enough time for many members that wished to take advantage of the Early Bird fee discounts. The Club has pushed back this year's Early Bird deadline to Wednesday, May 15th. Membership applications with payment can be dropped off at the clubhouse during regular club hours.

After School Program

Once again the Tuxedo Tennis Club is partnering with Tennisburrell Academy to offer its very popular after school tennis program. Kids get to learn the fundamentals of tennis plus have fun participating in tennis drills such as playing queen/king-of-the-court and jail. This program teaches kids how to serve, volley, improve forehand and backhand strokes, make friends, and have a great time! Contact the club to find our how you can enroll your kids in this program.

Looking for a Few Good PeopleTuxedo Junior Open

Our club's activities would not be as successful as they are without the contributions from our members. We are currently looking for volunteers to join our tournament committee as we host the 2006 Tuxedo Junior Open. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase our club as Manitoba's best juniors attempt to qualify for selection of the 2006 Outdoor Junior Nationals taking place later this summer. Those interested can contact Selvi Varathappan or Brenna Crook.

Wind Screen Work Party

We had a small but muscular contingent at the club Saturday, April 22nd to get the club open for the season. We were able to clean the clubhouse, sweep the courts, put up the remaining nets, rake leaves and shovel the parking lot after the winter ploughing destruction. The following Saturday we completed the setup process as we put up the wind screens. Thanks to all who attended. Your help was greatly appreciated.
