July 2007

Tuxedo Tennis Club Open Championships

Our club will once again host the Tuxedo Open which is being held July 22nd to 29th. This is a Tennis Canada national ranking tournament for those players participating in the open events and is sanctioned by Tennis Manitoba. The top 3 point earners in Men’s Open Doubles in tournaments from June to September, including the Tuxedo Open, will also qualify for the September 27th Doubles Exhibition with David Wheaton.

The entry deadline is fast approaching. Those still wishing to participate should drop off their completed entry forms before 5:00 pm, Friday July 20th. Entry forms can be picked up at the clubhouse or online at tennismanitoba.com.

Tournament matches will be scheduled in the evenings during the week and throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. Members looking for court time during the Tuxedo Open may play at Deer Lodge Tennis Club. Please remember to bring your membership card. We are still looking for some additional tournament volunteers. If you are able to help us out, please sign up at the clubhouse.

Special General Meeting Highlights

On Monday, July 16th club members were provided with an update on efforts the board is making with regards to acquiring a new clubhouse, as well as working with the City of Winnipeg to have the court lights reinstalled. After hearing the proposed plans, the membership voted 100% in favor of the motion to proceed with the negotiation and acquisition of the proposed new clubhouse building. There are still many hoops to jump through for this to become a reality, but we are optimistic that for the 2008 season we will have a new structure in place, and it will have our own washroom facilities! Hopefully the lease with the City will be finalized soon so that the new lights can be in place later this year.

For the club board...
